Meijer Weekly Ad Circular - Meijer, Inc. is a local American Supercenter chain headquartered in Walker, Michigan, Grand Rapids metropolitan area. Founded in 1934 as a supermarket chain, Meijer attributes the innovative modern Supercenter concept in 1962. About half of the company 200 stores are located in the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, with additional locations in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin and Illinois. Meijer has an affiliation with Fred Meyer. The chain is at number 19 on the Meijer Weekly Ad list of "America the largest private companies" and 19 in Fortune 2008 "The 35 largest US private companies. In 2016, Supermarket News ranked Meijer No 15 in the 2016 Top 75 of United States & Canada Food Retailers & Wholesalers. Based on 2015 sales, Meijer is the 26th largest retailer in the United States.


Meijer was founded as a Meijer in Greenville, Michigan, Henry Meijer, a Dutch immigrant. Weekly Ad Meijer was a local hairdresser who entered the supermarket business during the Great Depression. His first employees including 14-year-old son, Frederik Meijer, then president of the company. The current co-presidents, brothers Hank and Doug Meijer, Henry grandchildren. After studying trends in the supermarket industry, Meijer was a self-service stores and shopping carts from one of the first stores. He also offered basic items like vinegar at bargain prices.
